About This Tool
This free AVIF to JPG converter transforms AVIF images into universally compatible JPG (JPEG) format. AVIF is a next-generation image format with excellent compression, but many applications, email clients, and older devices can't open AVIF files. Converting to JPG solves this compatibility problem instantly.
What is AVIF?
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a modern image format developed by the Alliance for Open Media. It's based on the AV1 video codec and offers significantly better compression than JPEG — up to 50% smaller files at the same visual quality. Major browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge support AVIF, but many other applications don't:
- Adobe Photoshop — Requires a plugin or recent version to open AVIF
- Microsoft Office — Word, PowerPoint, and Excel can't insert AVIF images
- Email clients — Most email apps won't display AVIF inline
- Social media — Some platforms don't accept AVIF uploads
- Older phones and tablets — Devices with older operating systems may not support AVIF
Why Convert AVIF to JPG?
JPG is the most widely supported image format in the world. Every device, browser, application, and platform can open JPG files. Common reasons to convert:
- Sharing images — Send photos via email or messaging apps with guaranteed compatibility
- Uploading to websites — Some CMS platforms and website builders only accept JPG/PNG
- Printing — Print shops and photo services universally accept JPG
- Document embedding — Insert images into Word, PDF, or presentation files
- Editing in older software — Open images in any photo editor without plugin requirements
Quality Settings Guide
JPG uses lossy compression, so choosing the right quality level matters:
- 90–100% — Best quality, minimal compression artifacts. Use for photos you plan to print or edit further.
- 75–89% — Good balance of quality and file size. Ideal for web use and sharing.
- 50–74% — Noticeable quality reduction but much smaller files. Good for thumbnails or previews.
Privacy and Security
All conversion happens directly in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your AVIF images are never uploaded to any server — they stay on your device throughout the entire process.
